Euro 5 - Does not make aftermarket diagnostics as easy as you might think!
In addition to Euro 5 emissions standards, encompassed within this is ISO 19689:2016, which defined the requirements for a standard diagnostic connector as well as carrying on from Euro 4, where OBD2 compliant communication protocols were also to be used.
However, the range of OBD2 data required by this legislation is quite limited and does not extend to manufacturers having to allow access to ALL of their systems and parameters.
While this means that data requirements dictated by OBD2 and Euro 5 can be read more easily, this does not extend to other manufacturer data, manufacturer specific fault codes or indeed service reset functions and component commands, tests, activations or adjustments/calibrations.
So to assume that diagnostics is now a simple system that anyone can access is grossly incorrect.
As you can see above, contact 1 can also be used for any requirement that the motorcycle manufacturer deems suitable. There is no requirement for them to use a standard language or protocol for this pin.
It could be used for programming, commands, or indeed other data not covered under OBD2 requirements.
Also we have not only data avialble via CAN HIGH and CAN LOW, but also K Line data streams.
